The details

Original embossed Coca-Cola contour (hobbleskirt) bottle with HENDERSONVILLE N.C. embossed on the base, in attractive green glass with an aqua cast. A 6 fl. oz. bottle marked BOTTLE PAT. D-105529, with strong Coca-Cola script embossing and honest age and circulation wear described below. Dated to the 1940s; a tiny skirt code appears consistent with 1947 and probable manufacture by Laurens Glass Works. The contour bottle was protected by design patent D-105529, granted in 1937, and this patent-marked style was produced approximately 1938 to 1951. As was customary in that era, bottles carried the name of the town on the base, and this one reads HENDERSONVILLE N.C. Made for Coca-Cola service in the Hendersonville, North Carolina bottling territory. Research indicates this is probably a 1947 example, probably manufactured by Laurens Glass Works. A tiny skirt code appears consistent with 47 L 4, which would point to that date and maker. Because the code is very small and cannot be treated as definitive, the date is offered here as 1940s and the maker as probable rather than confirmed. Condition: the glass is an attractive green with an aqua cast. The Coca-Cola script on the front and reverse and the HENDERSONVILLE N.C. base embossing are strong and easy to read. No chips or cracks were observed, and the crown/lip appears complete. This is an original bottle with normal, honest case wear, including surface scratches and scuffs from circulation and some minor residue and age wear around the neck. As with glass of this period, manufacturing bubbles and irregularities may be present. Please review all photographs carefully; the bottle is sold as pictured. A town-name base ties a Coca-Cola bottle to a specific place, which is a large part of its appeal for collectors of Coca-Cola, North Carolina and Hendersonville local history. The strong embossing, intact appearance and green glass make it a displayable example of the patent-era contour bottle. Item: Embossed Coca-Cola contour (hobbleskirt) bottle Base: HENDERSONVILLE N.C.
