The details
Antique early 1900s W.F. Young ABSORBINE veterinary liniment bottle in exceptional deep amber glass, featuring bold embossed lettering, excellent clarity, and beautiful early glass character. This is the original veterinary ABSORBINE product made by W.F. Young of Springfield, Massachusetts, rather than the later and much more commonly encountered Absorbine Jr. bottles. Absorbine was developed as a veterinary liniment for horses and became one of the best-known American horse and veterinary medicine products of the period. The front of the bottle is boldly embossed: ABSORBINE $2.00 PER BOTTLE MF’G BY W.F. YOUNG P.D.F. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. U.S.A. The base is embossed with the T.C.W.CO. / U.S.A. glassmaker mark associated with the T. C. Wheaton Company, one of America’s important pharmaceutical and laboratory glass manufacturers. Based on the W.F. Young company designation, documented $2.00 Absorbine pricing, glassmaker mark, bottle construction, and manufacturing characteristics, this example dates to approximately the early 1900s, circa 1901–1919. The glass is especially attractive. In normal light it displays as a rich dark amber, while strong natural backlighting transforms it into a brilliant glowing orange-gold. Numerous bubbles and subtle manufacturing irregularities throughout the glass add considerable character and are consistent with early bottle production. The raised embossing is strong and clearly defined, making this an excellent display example for a serious antique bottle collection. DETAILS Maker / Brand: W.F.
