A striking early 20th-century C.W. Abbott & Co. bitters bottle from Baltimore, Maryland, dating most plausibly to the 1910s. What sets this example apart is the extraordinary natural surface iridescence. The amber glass flashes purple, blue, green, turquoise, gold, bronze and pink depending on the angle and lighting, giving the bottle far more visual character than the typical plain amber Abbott example. The color appears to be age-related weathering and mineral iridescence developed over time rather than applied coloration. The bottle is boldly embossed “C.W. ABBOTT & CO.” across one shoulder and “BALTIMORE” across the opposite shoulder, with additional circular company/location embossing around the base. C.W. Abbott & Co. was a Baltimore bitters producer with roots in the 19th century, and Abbott bottles are well known among collectors of early American bitters, medicines and advertising glass. This is an especially attractive collector example because of the combination of strong embossing, rich amber glass and unusually dramatic rainbow surface character.
