Sher is one of Tom Clark's original gnome characters, produced in the early years of the Cairn Studio line before the series gained widespread collector recognition. The piece carries the distinctive Clark style: expressive face, hand-finished detail, earthy coloring, and the signature mark on the base. Tom Clark (1935–2019) created over 1,000 individual gnome characters during his career at Cairn Studio, beginning in the early 1980s. His work drew on European gnome folklore and American folk art traditions, and his pieces developed a devoted collector following throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Early pieces signed with the 1984 date are from the first generation of Clark production — highly sought by serious collectors. This example is in excellent condition. The resin casting is solid with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The felt base is intact. The signature is legible. Character name "Sher" is identifiable. An honest, display-ready piece with full original detail. Displays beautifully on a bookshelf, in a folk art vignette, in a gnome collection, or as a cottage or woodland-themed accent. Also makes a meaningful gift for a Tom Clark collector or any lover of American folk art.
