Antique Ball Triple-L MASON Half Gallon Aqua Mason Jar Seed Bubble Trail Milk Glass Liner Zinc Lid 1900-1910 Authentic antique Ball Triple-L MASON half-gallon fruit jar in vivid aqua-blue glass, dating to approximately 1900–1910. This is an especially attractive example because it combines the large half-gallon form with bold early Ball embossing, pronounced glass movement, concentrated blue-green color at the base, and a distinctive vertical trail of seed bubbles passing directly through the third and final L in the Ball script. The front is embossed with Ball’s early 3-L Loop, commonly called Triple-L, script logo above block-letter MASON. “Triple-L” refers to the three looped lowercase L letters in the Ball signature. The script is strongly formed and remains clearly visible against both light and dark backgrounds. Based on its embossing, half-gallon capacity, closure style and color, this jar is consistent with the standard Red Book No. 234 Ball Triple-L MASON family, rather than one of the separately cataloged lettering-error variations. Distinctive Seed-Bubble Trail One of the strongest visual features is a vertical string of naturally formed seed bubbles running through and alongside the third and final L of the Ball logo. These bubbles were trapped in the molten glass during manufacture. They are not cracks or later damage. Their placement directly through the embossing gives this particular jar individual character and distinguishes it visually from more ordinary examples of the same Ball variation. Additional early-glass characteristics include: • Numerous scattered seed bubbles • Larger trapped air bubbles • Visible waviness and glass movement • Uneven thickness typical of antique utility glass • Stronger aqua-blue concentration near the heel and base • A pronounced base swirl and central glass movement • Natural mold irregularities Glass Color The glass is a strong aqua blue with deeper blue-green to teal color concentrated around the lower body and base. The color changes naturally according to lighting and background. Outdoors, the jar displays a brighter blue-aqua tone; indoors, it appears softer and slightly greener. The heavily colored base is particularly striking when the jar is displayed near a window or illuminated from below. The photographs show the jar in several lighting conditions so the buyer can accurately judge its color and glass character. Closure The jar includes an aged zinc screw lid with a milk-glass liner. The zinc displays darkening, oxidation, surface wear and natural patina consistent with age. The liner adds completeness and collector appeal while also illustrating the period closure system used with early screw-top fruit jars. Because antique jar lids were removable and commonly exchanged during decades of household use, the closure is described as a period zinc lid with milk-glass liner rather than guaranteed as the exact lid originally paired with this specific jar body. The lid has not been polished or refinished. Collector Interest This jar combines several desirable features: • Early Ball Triple-L or 3-L Loop script • Block MASON embossing • Large half-gallon capacity • Strong aqua-blue glass • Deeper teal-blue base concentration • Seed-bubble trail through the final L • Numerous additional seed bubbles • Pronounced base swirl • Period zinc lid with milk-glass liner • Bold, legible embossing • Strong decorative and collector presence • Circa 1900–1910 production period The half-gallon size gives the jar substantially greater presence than a standard quart. Its vivid color and highly active glass make it suitable for both an established fruit-jar collection and a high-end antique display. It would display especially well in: • A Ball jar collection • An antique fruit-jar collection • An early American glass collection • A collection focused on bubbles and glassmaking irregularities • A primitive kitchen or pantry display • A country-store or Southern mercantile setting • A farmhouse, traditional or historic interior • A window display emphasizing antique colored glass Condition The jar appears to be in very good antique collectible condition. No cracks or major chips are visible in the supplied photographs. Expected evidence of age and manufacture includes light scratches, scattered surface wear, seed bubbles, waviness, mold irregularities, minor storage marks and variation in the glass. The zinc lid shows oxidation, darkening, patina and age-related wear. The milk-glass liner should be examined closely in the photographs for its exact condition. Please review every image carefully, especially the mouth, threads, shoulder, embossing, seed-bubble trail, lower body, heel, base swirl, zinc lid and liner. The photographs show the exact jar offered and form an important part of the condition description.
