The details
Antique Ball Triple-L MASON Half Gallon Aqua Mason Jar Shoulder Seal Zinc Lid Seed Bubbles 1900-1910. Authentic antique Ball Triple-L MASON half-gallon fruit jar in attractive aqua-blue glass, dating to approximately 1900–1910. This is a particularly strong display example, combining the large half-gallon form with an early Ball Triple-L script, block-letter MASON embossing, a smooth-lip Mason shoulder-seal profile, visible seed bubbles, substantial glass movement and an aged zinc screw lid. The front carries Ball’s early 3-L Loop, commonly called Triple-L, script logo above block MASON lettering. Triple-L refers to the three prominent looped lowercase L letters in the Ball signature. Distinctive Ball Embossing The capital B has an unusually crude and strongly formed appearance that can resemble an R from certain angles. This gives the logo considerable individual character and is one of the most visually interesting features of the jar. The jar is not represented as the separately cataloged Rall or Looped Rall variation, because it does not display the complete combination of identifying features required for those entries. It is accurately offered as a character-rich Triple-L MASON mold variation with an unusually formed capital B. The Ball script and block MASON lettering remain legible and display especially well under angled natural light or against a contrasting background. Glass Color and Character The glass is a pleasing aqua blue with blue-green concentration around the heel and base. Its appearance changes naturally with lighting, ranging from soft pale aqua indoors to a brighter blue-green outdoors. The antique glass contains numerous authentic manufacturing characteristics, including: • Scattered seed bubbles • Larger trapped air bubbles • Visible waviness and glass movement • Uneven glass thickness • Natural mold irregularities • Stronger color concentration near the base • A pronounced circular base swirl These features originated during manufacture and are part of the jar’s genuine early glass character rather than modern damage. Shoulder-Seal Form This jar has the smooth-lip Mason shoulder-seal construction associated with early screw-top fruit jars. The sealing surface is formed around the shoulder and neck beneath the threaded mouth. The term shoulder seal describes the jar’s closure construction; it is not additional body embossing. Zinc Closure The jar includes an aged zinc screw lid with darkened patina, oxidation, discoloration and surface wear consistent with age. Antique fruit-jar lids were removable and commonly interchanged through decades of household use. For that reason, the lid is described as a period-compatible zinc closure rather than guaranteed as the exact lid originally paired with this particular jar body. The zinc has not been polished or refinished, preserving its honest antique surface. Collector Interest This jar combines several desirable characteristics: • Early Ball Triple-L or 3-L Loop script • Distinctive, unusually formed capital B • Block MASON embossing • Large half-gallon capacity • Aqua-blue antique glass • Blue-green base concentration • Smooth-lip Mason shoulder-seal form • Numerous seed bubbles • Strong glass movement and waviness • Pronounced base swirl • Period zinc screw lid • Strong visual presence • Circa 1900–1910 production period The half-gallon size provides substantially more display presence than the more commonly encountered quart form. The combination of early embossing, active glass, concentrated base color and the unusually characterful Ball logo makes this an excellent choice for a serious Ball or fruit-jar collection. It would display well in: • An antique Ball jar collection • A specialized fruit-jar collection • An early American glass collection • A collection of mold and embossing variations • A primitive kitchen or pantry display • A country-store or Southern mercantile arrangement • A farmhouse, traditional or historic interior • A window display emphasizing antique colored glass Condition The jar appears to be in very good antique collectible condition. No cracks or major chips were observed during inspection. Expected signs of age and manufacture include light scratches, minor surface wear, seed bubbles, glass waviness, mold irregularities and scattered marks from historic use and storage. The zinc lid shows oxidation, darkening, patina and age-related surface wear. Please review every photograph closely, especially the mouth, threads, shoulder, capital B, full Ball script, MASON lettering, body, heel, base swirl and zinc lid. The photographs show the exact jar offered and form an important part of the condition description.
