The details

Antique C.S. Bell No. 1½ pattern-family cast iron grist mill and hand-crank grinder with a distinctive 12-inch branching-spoke flywheel. Professionally packed for fragile shipment. Ships next business day. Full refund if damaged in transit. Cleaned and carefully waxed to preserve its aged red-orange paint and authentic patina, with a hand crank and grinding mechanism that operate. This is an American industrial antique with real presence. The raised flywheel carries the NO. 1½ designation, and the casting bears GM-series numbers in the GM 22 / GM 21 family, which connect this mill to the C.S. Bell Company of Hillsboro, Ohio. Its construction is purposeful and unmistakable: a cast iron flywheel with branching spokes, an integrated hopper, and a tapered mounting pedestal, turned by a wooden crank handle. Approximately 12 inches across, the flywheel is the visual centerpiece, and it makes a strong statement on a workbench, mantel, kitchen shelf, or farmhouse display. Identification: we located the same casting design with matching GM-series markings in a documented auction example of a C.S. Bell No. 1½ grinder. This listing presents the C.S. Bell identification as an attributed pattern-family identification, based on the casting design, the NO. 1½ designation, and the GM-series markings. The factory manufacturing date and any patent are unverified and are not claimed here. Condition: cleaned and carefully waxed, not stripped or polished bare. The aged red-orange paint, oxidation, and surface wear have been left in place as original age-related character. The hand crank turns and the grinding mechanism operates. Please review all photographs closely as part of your evaluation, since they are part of the description. Operation versus food use: the mechanism operates, but this mill has not been tested or certified for grinding food. It is offered as a working antique for collecting, display, and decorative use. Anyone planning to grind coffee, grain, or corn should make their own determination of suitability. At LintHead Restorations, we buy, clean, document, and preserve authentic vintage and antique pieces, and we describe each one plainly: what it is, what we can verify, and what we cannot. Preserve the past. Build the future. Specs: cast iron with wooden crank handle; flywheel approximately 12 inches in diameter; marked NO. 1½; casting numbers GM 22 / GM 21; C.S. Bell Company (Hillsboro, Ohio) pattern-family attribution; manufacturing date unverified.
