The details

Original vintage John Deere agricultural implement safety-release / breakaway latch and spring assembly, dating approximately to the 1950s. This substantial piece of vintage farm machinery retains its old John Deere green finish, heavy forged and fabricated steel construction, large compression spring, adjustable hardware, pivoting forged eye latch, mounting bracket, and long structural arm. Research into the construction, Deere-style forged markings, spring-loaded mechanism, and surviving parts literature indicates this assembly was used as part of a John Deere sickle bar mower safety-release or breakaway system. These mechanisms were designed to allow the mower linkage to release or trip when excessive resistance was encountered, helping protect the mower and tractor from damage. The forged eye component retains an old raised John Deere / JD-style manufacturing mark, along with additional worn forging characters. The secondary characters are heavily worn from decades of agricultural use and are intentionally not represented here as a definite service part number. Exact mower model fitment has not been conclusively established, so buyers restoring a specific machine should compare the photographs, mounting arrangement, dimensions, and hardware with their original parts catalog before purchasing. What makes this example particularly appealing is that it remains a substantial assembled mechanism rather than an isolated loose latch or spring. The original spring, adjustment nuts, pivot linkage, mounting plates, forged hardware, and long arm remain together, making it useful both as a restoration component and as a strong piece of authentic John Deere agricultural history. The condition is exactly what many serious vintage farm-equipment collectors and restorers prefer: old original green paint, honest surface oxidation, wear, patina, and untouched period hardware. It has not been sandblasted, repainted, polished, or cosmetically restored. Areas of bare steel, oxidation, paint loss, scratches, grime, and age-related wear are present throughout and are clearly documented in the photographs. The moving linkage remains assembled. No attempt has been made to place the spring mechanism under working agricultural load, and it is being offered as a vintage restoration/collector component rather than as a tested modern safety device. A particularly strong piece for a John Deere tractor or mower restoration, vintage farm machinery collection, agricultural museum display, antique implement collection, farm shop display, industrial salvage collection, or original Deere parts inventory. Please study all photographs carefully for condition, construction, markings, mounting points, and measurements. The photographs form an important part of the description. Because vintage John Deere implements underwent production changes and shared certain components across different mower families, the buyer should independently confirm exact machine fitment before installation. vintage John Deere, John Deere parts, antique John Deere, sickle bar mower, sickle mower part, mower breakaway, safety release latch, breakaway latch, vintage tractor part, antique tractor parts, farm implement part, agricultural machinery, vintage farm equipment, John Deere mower parts, tractor restoration, farm machinery restoration, original Deere green, antique farm hardware, forged steel farm part, agricultural salvage, vintage machinery part, old farm equipment, collector tractor part, industrial farm decor, 1950s John Deere.
