Add a true piece of 19th-century American glassmaking history to your collection with this authentic antique hand-blown aqua utility bottle dating to approximately 1870–1885. Crafted in the decades before fully automated bottle production, this example displays the characteristics serious bottle collectors seek: a hand-applied collar, visible whittle marks, an attractive light aqua color, and a pronounced deep push-up base.
Professionally packed for fragile shipment. Ships next business day. Full refund if damaged in transit.
The bottle retains its original primitive form with a tooled-applied collar finish and a cylindrical body tapering into a long neck. Strong vertical whittle marks remain visible throughout the glass, evidence of hand-finishing during manufacture. The substantial push-up base adds visual appeal while highlighting the craftsmanship of late 19th-century bottle production. A mold number ‘226’ is present on the base, and the glass exhibits the natural variations, bubbles, and character expected from period hand-blown manufacture.
Unlike embossed medicines, sodas, or bitters, unembossed utility bottles such as this were produced for a variety of commercial uses and are increasingly sought after for their pure form, color, and early manufacturing features. The combination of the applied collar, attractive aqua glass, deep push-up, and primitive appearance makes this an excellent display piece for bottle collectors, primitive décor enthusiasts, and students of early American glass.
Condition is very good antique condition with no cracks or repairs observed. Displays honest age-related wear, manufacturing imperfections, interior haze, and surface marks consistent with over 140 years of age. Please review all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
A genuine survivor from America’s hand-blown glass era and an excellent addition to any antique bottle, primitive Americana, country store, or early glass collection.
