Exceptional circa 1890–1900 Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery bottle featuring an early applied top, abundant seed bubbles, strong whittle, and outstanding collector-grade condition. One of the finest aqua examples you are likely to encounter, displaying remarkable glass character, crisp embossing, and excellent eye appeal throughout.
Antique Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery patent medicine bottle in beautiful aqua glass. This early hand-blown example was produced in Buffalo, New York during the height of America’s patent medicine era and retains the characteristics serious bottle collectors seek, including a hand-finished applied collar top, abundant seed bubbles throughout the body and neck, pronounced whittle, and attractive manufacturing irregularities that cannot be replicated in later machine-made glass.
The bottle is boldly embossed DR. PIERCE’S GOLDEN MEDICAL DISCOVERY with BUFFALO, N.Y. and R.V. PIERCE, M.D. embossed on the side panels. The lettering remains sharp, deep, and highly legible. The aqua glass displays exceptional clarity and character, with countless seed bubbles visible throughout the bottle and beautiful stretch marks in the neck from the hand-blown manufacturing process.
Dr. Ray Vaughn Pierce introduced Golden Medical Discovery in the 1870s, and it became one of the most recognized patent medicines in American history. Original embossed examples from the late Victorian period remain highly collectible among antique bottle collectors, patent medicine collectors, apothecary enthusiasts, and those interested in early American medical advertising and quack medicine history.
What sets this example apart is its outstanding preservation. The applied finish remains well defined, the embossing is exceptionally crisp, and the glass exhibits the strong whittle and heavy seeding that advanced collectors actively seek. The bottle has outstanding shelf presence and displays beautifully under natural or artificial light, where the aqua color and internal seed bubbles become especially noticeable.
Condition:
Exceptional antique condition. No chips, cracks, repairs, or other significant damage observed. Embossing remains strong and well defined. The glass is bright, clean, and highly displayable with abundant original manufacturing character throughout.
