A striking early Coca-Cola bottle with the combination serious collectors look for: strong Southern town embossing, rich dark cherry-amber glass, a confirmed 1910 Root Glass date code, unusually sharp raised lettering, and a clearly doubled ROOT maker’s mark on the base.
This straight-sided Coca-Cola bottle is boldly embossed:
Coca-Cola
HUNTSVILLE, ALA.
The bottle appears deep brown to nearly black in ordinary indoor light, then reveals vivid ruby-red and cherry-amber tones when illuminated from behind. The Coca-Cola script and Huntsville lettering are especially strong, crisp, and well raised, giving the bottle exceptional presence on display.
The heel carries the sharply embossed 1069 Root Glass model number and the separate 10 date code, identifying the bottle as a 1910 production example. The base shows a distinct offset double-struck ROOT mark, a genuine manufacturing variation that adds another level of interest for advanced Coca-Cola and early bottle collectors.
Scarcity and collector appeal
This is a scarce, collector-grade Huntsville configuration. Dark amber Huntsville straight-sided Coca-Cola bottles are already difficult to locate in high condition. Examples combining a confirmed 1910 date, crisp 1069 marking, dramatic cherry-red transmission, unusually strong town embossing, near-mint preservation, and a genuine doubled ROOT base mark are considerably harder to find.
It should not be confused with a standard amber straight-sided Coke bottle. The value and desirability come from the complete combination of:
* Huntsville, Alabama town embossing
* Confirmed 1910 production date
* Root Glass Company manufacture
* Sharp 1069 model marking
* Genuine double-struck ROOT base mark
* Deep cherry-amber glass with ruby-red transmission
* Strong, sharply raised Coca-Cola lettering
* Excellent overall preservation
Condition
Near-mint antique condition with no cracks, repairs, or significant chips observed. The crown lip, heel, and base remain very well preserved. There is light base wear and minor surface evidence consistent with an original bottle more than 115 years old.
The embossing remains bold and highly legible throughout. The color is especially impressive when viewed in natural or transmitted light.
Please review all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description. Images taken against different backgrounds and lighting are included to show both the bottle’s dark natural appearance and its vivid ruby-cherry transmission.
Collector significance
This bottle represents an early period in Coca-Cola bottling history before the adoption of the later contour bottle. Its straight-sided form, regional Huntsville embossing, Root Glass markings, early date code, and manufacturing error make it an excellent surviving example for:
* Advanced Coca-Cola collectors
* Alabama and Southern advertising collectors
* Antique soda bottle collectors
* Root Glass Company specialists
* Early embossed bottle collections
* Historic mercantile and advertising displays
A handsome, scarce, and unusually well-preserved early Coca-Cola bottle with exceptional color, strong embossing, and a documented double-struck base mark.
