Beautiful antique carnival glass bowl in the classic Grape & Cable pattern, produced in the early 1900s. This ruffled pressed glass bowl features rich purple amethyst glass with brilliant iridescent carnival finish that shifts between gold, blue, and rainbow tones depending on the light. A striking decorative piece that displays beautifully in natural light or as part of a vintage glass collection.
Professionally packed for fragile shipment. Ships next business day. Full refund if damaged in transit.
Carnival glass was first introduced in the United States around 1908 and quickly became popular for its dramatic metallic iridescence and intricate pressed glass patterns. This example displays the highly recognizable grape clusters, vine leaves, and cable-style border associated with the Grape & Cable pattern produced by the historic Imperial Glass Company. Pieces like this were pressed in molds and finished with a metallic spray treatment that created the shimmering rainbow effect collectors seek today.
The bowl has a beautifully shaped ruffled rim and excellent pattern definition throughout the grape clusters and leaves. When viewed in sunlight, the iridescent finish shows strong gold and blue highlights across the surface, a hallmark of early carnival glass production. Small berry bowls like this were originally used as serving dishes but today are widely collected and displayed for their unique color and historic glassmaking technique.
Condition is very good for its age with no visible chips or cracks. The glass retains strong iridescence and crisp pattern detail. Minor interior straw marks and mold lines are present, which are normal characteristics of early pressed carnival glass.
Approximate size: about 5.5–6 inches across
Height: about 2 inches
Era: circa 1908–1920
Maker: Imperial Glass Company
Pattern: Grape & Cable
Material: pressed carnival glass
