This impressive antique ruby glass oil lamp dates to the late Victorian period, approximately 1895–1915, when decorative kerosene lamps were essential fixtures in parlors, halls, and piano rooms before widespread electrification. The lamp features a sculptural pedestal base molded with an elegant wetland scene showing long-legged wading birds among reeds and flowing vines, an uncommon nature motif inspired by the transition from ornate Victorian design toward the early Art Nouveau fascination with natural forms. The solid ruby pressed glass construction creates the deep cranberry red color prized by collectors and interior designers, especially when illuminated.

Above the decorative pedestal sits a hammered reservoir font designed to diffuse the flame and produce the dramatic glowing effect ruby glass lamps are known for. The lamp retains its period brass No.2 burner and a clear hurricane chimney, completing the classic silhouette of a tall Victorian parlor lamp. Standing roughly 22 inches tall with chimney, this example has the elegant proportions associated with full-size parlor lamps used on center tables and piano tops to provide bright, even room lighting. The combination of tall pedestal form, richly colored ruby glass, and an unusual figural marsh scene base makes this lamp both a functional antique light source and a visually striking decorative statement piece.

Ruby glass oil lamps remain among the most collectible forms of Victorian lighting because they bridge utility and decorative art. Even unlit, the glass acts as a sculptural object with deep translucent color, while when lit it produces the warm red glow that collectors and designers seek for historic interiors, farmhouse décor, and antique-inspired spaces. Lamps of this height and style were commonly found in well-appointed parlors at the turn of the twentieth century, where they served both as illumination and as decorative table centerpieces.

This antique ruby glass kerosene lamp presents beautifully and displays well as a centerpiece in vintage home décor, Victorian interiors, farmhouse settings, or antique lighting collections.
