Exceptional high-grade Atlas Good Luck half-gallon fruit jar, featuring the iconic embossed four-leaf clover and bold ATLAS / GOOD-LUCK lettering. This is the scarce half-gallon size sought by serious Hazel-Atlas and antique fruit-jar collectors, and it is considerably less frequently encountered than the familiar quart examples.

This example has been carefully examined against the Atlas section of the Red Book of Fruit Jars and is identified as Red Book #128: ATLAS (4 leaf clover) GOOD LUCK, clear half gallon, with a smooth-lip Lightning beaded-neck seal and Hazel-Atlas H-over-A trademark base.

The neck construction is particularly important to the identification. This jar has the pronounced continuous glass bead associated with the #128 Lightning closure and does not have the “LEVER” neck embossing required for the different #129-1 variation. The base carries the Hazel-Atlas H-over-A trademark, together with additional B and 9 mold/production markings.

The four-leaf-clover embossing is unusually attractive on this example. Each leaf retains strong molded detail and visible internal veining, while the raised ATLAS and GOOD-LUCK lettering remains crisp and well defined. In natural backlighting, the embossing has exceptional depth and clarity, giving the jar considerably more visual presence than an average clear fruit jar.

The half-gallon size is an important collector feature. Atlas Good Luck jars are encountered much more regularly in quart form, while surviving half-gallon examples appear considerably less often. For a collector building an Atlas Good Luck size run, closure-variation collection, Hazel-Atlas display, or advanced antique fruit-jar collection, the half gallon represents one of the more desirable standard clover sizes.

This example is also notable for its high-grade condition. The clear glass remains exceptionally clean and bright with excellent transparency and no significant interior haze or cloudiness observed. The mouth, neck, shoulders, body and base have been closely inspected in strong light. No cracks or major chips are visible, and the embossed face presents exceptionally well. Minor fine surface marks consistent with the age and handling of antique glass may be present when viewed under harsh directional light.

The jar retains a complete period-style Lightning wire-bail closure and glass lid. The metal closure shows appropriate oxidation and patina from age rather than modern refinishing. A red rubber sealing gasket is present and displays expected age-related wear. Because fruit-jar lids, bails and gaskets were interchangeable service components, they are described as period-appropriate rather than represented as unquestionably original to this exact jar.

The Hazel-Atlas H-over-A trademark places this example within the company’s marked production period beginning in the early 20th century. Based on the trademark, jar construction and closure style, this example is consistent with early Hazel-Atlas production, post-1923, and is appropriate for a 1920s–1930s collector context.

It would make an important addition to an advanced Hazel-Atlas, Atlas Good Luck, antique mason jar, fruit jar, Lightning jar, or early American canning-glass collection, while also displaying beautifully on its own.
